Did you hear the exciting news?  Charlotte got its own aquarium!  Sea Life Charlotte-Concord opened on February 20th and should be on your list of things to do with the kids this year.

DSC_0008With over 5,000 sea creatures covering 36,000 square feet of space, an interactive touch pool, a 180-degree tunnel filled with marine life, and lots of really neat displays, there should truly be something for everyone in your family to see and enjoy.

DSC_0012The aquarium is especially geared towards younger kids, with special features on many exhibits just for them, including bubble windows on the tanks allowing them an up-close look at the sea creatures – even one where they can stand up and be “inside” of a fish tank!  There’s also a stamp passport for kids to fill out while they roam the aquarium; completed books receive a prize at the gift shop.  After the exhibits, there’s a great area for kids to play, color or have some snacks before heading back home.  Located just beyond Concord Mills too means a short and simple drive from Charlotte and its surrounding areas; much easier and shorter than a trek to Atlanta or Charleston for their aquariums.DSC_0035

Our boys (and us!) had a great time on our visit to the aquarium.  I was impressed with the amount of detailing that went into each exhibit – it never felt like we were in a boring aquarium or even in Concord Mills mall.  My only complaint was that it is a little pricey for the size of the aquarium itself – $21 for adults, $17 for kids 3 and over, and Atlanta aquarium this is not.  We made it through all of the exhibits in a little over an hour (of course, my 15 month-old was more content to sprint from room to room, which helped us move faster).  Overall though, it was a really fun trip to a really nicely done aquarium, and our boys loved it.  What more can you ask for?
