small businessWe’ve made it no secret here at Charlotte Moms Blog just how much we love and support small businesses, particularly those owned by moms, which is why we’re excited to spotlight Elaine O’Neil today – she’s a textile collage artist, mom of three, and Chapel Hill resident who creates beautiful and distinct art for a good cause.

Just as a painter uses a paint brush to create, O’Neil uses scissors to create her work through layering fabric with different textures, colors and shapes.  Much of her work is featured in and around Chapel Hill, including twelve pieces covering the walls of the NC Cancer Hospital, and can also be found in the children’s book Goodnight Carolina.

For a limited time, you can have some of O’Neil’s art in your house too, thanks to her annual calendar.  Featuring beautiful scenes from across the state – including the Queen City’s skyline – this is an incredible way to have twelve individual prints to frame in your house.  The best part?  Proceeds from the sales of the calendar benefit the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center/NC Cancer Hospital, responsible for treating patients across the state.  This is O’Neil’s fourth year collaborating with the center, and over $23,000 in donations have been raised so far.

Calendars can be purchased through Elaine’s website – hurry, quantities are limited!

If you happen to be in Chapel Hill this month, the calendar will be shown at Crook’s Corner through the month of December.  The opening reception, featuring the artist herself, will be on December 5th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM.
