PicMonkey CollageA few weekends ago I was able to cross one activity off of my fall bucket list when we headed to Windy Hill Orchard for a day of apple picking.  The orchard, in nearby York, SC., is a nice drive from Charlotte, and one of my favorite fall destinations.  There’s a lot to see and do here aside from just picking apples!  We feasted on fresh, hot, homemade apple doughnuts, enjoyed tasting a flight of their own hard apple cider, and let the kids roam free – much like the chickens who call the orchard home (side note: our oldest, now 2 1/2, is very much not freaked out by the chickens anymore.  In fact, he ran after them when attempting to feed them.  Success!)  There’s a store with plenty of homemade apple goodies, pigs to visit, hay stacks to climb, and plenty of space to run around.  They also offer hard cider tastings and Johnny Appleseed tours which are both educational and lots of fun.  A great way to spend these beautiful fall days!

For more information, visit Windy Hill Orcahrd’s website.  And don’t miss their annual Harvest Festival on October 19th!
