Friday FiveHappy Friday!  Do you have any plans for this holiday weekend?  If not, here are a few things going on around the city.

1) Matthews Alive Festival August 30th – September 2nd

Featuring three stages with different musical performances every day, a parade, rides, food, games and more, Matthews Alive is the biggest draw this weekend.  There’s plenty to see and do for kids of all ages (and their parents too).  The best part?  All proceeds go to supporting local charities.

2) U.S. National Whitewater Center Labor Day Celebration September 1st

Head out to the Whitewater Center for 5K and 15K trail races, music, activities, a build-your-own-boat competition, and fireworks to end the night.

3) Romare Bearden Park Grand Opening August 30th – September 1st

Celebrate the grand opening of uptown’s newest park!  There will be music, a family picnic, activities for the kids and more.

4) Charlotte Labor Day Parade September 2nd

Time for the 14th annual Charlotte Labor Day Parade!  Beginning at 11 AM,

5) Don’t forget about all of the live music offered in the evenings!  Fridays and Saturday evenings, beginning at 7 PM, live music can be enjoyed at Stonecrest, Blakeney, the Promenade on Providence (along with a kids movie night on Sunday night), and many other shopping areas.  Bring a picnic and some wine, and savor these last warm summer nights.
