yofflersLooking for a kid-friendly place without the usual look and feel of a kid-friendly place?  You know what I mean – lots of colors, noise and maybe a few robotic animals thrown in for good measure.  Then be sure to check out Cafe Yofflers on Community House Road in Ballantyne.  They’ve got self-serve frozen yogurt, fresh baked goodies, and a great coffee bar serving up Illy coffee.

But the draw for us was their gelato.  Cafe Yofflers’ gelato is made fresh daily with organic milk and no artificial flavors or chemicals.  They feature a dozen flavors every day, including things like mango, green apple, salted caramel and caramel popcorn.  I had a chocolate/peanut/caramel popcorn mixture and loved it.  Unlike ice cream which tends to have a predominantly milky/cream flavor, Cafe Yofflers’ gelato tastes true to each flavor: peanut tastes like smooth, creamy peanut butter, while the chocolate (made from semisweet baking chocolate) tastes bitter (but delicious) like baking chocolate does.  The super friendly and helpful staff are more than happy to provide you a few samples if you’re having trouble making up your mind.  The restaurant itself is quiet and cozy with couches, chairs and high chairs, and has outdoor seating.  A great spot for dessert with the family!
